Surrey Police Investigating Targeted Shots Fired Incident in South Newton

Two homes damaged by gunfire; no injuries reported as Major Crime Section takes over investigation.

SURREY, B.C. (Khandoli) – Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred in the South Newton area on Tuesday morning, June 9, 2026.

At approximately 10:44 a.m., SPS officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of 66 Avenue and 129 Street. According to police, witnesses observed an occupant from one vehicle firing shots at an occupant associated with another vehicle.

Both vehicles fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police determined that at least two nearby residences were struck and damaged by gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted; however, police have stated that the incident is not believed to be connected to the ongoing extortion-related investigations that have affected parts of the Lower Mainland.

The Surrey Police Service Major Crime Section has assumed conduct of the investigation, while Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) officers are processing the scene and collecting physical and digital evidence.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have CCTV, security camera, or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.
