VANCOUVER, BC: Vancouver Police Chief Steve Rai has issued a statement following the arrest of 50-year-old VPD officer Kalwinder Singh Dosanjh, who is facing multiple criminal charges following a lengthy investigation by the Vancouver Police Department.
According to Chief Rai, Dosanjh was arrested and taken into custody on September 3, 2026. Crown Counsel has approved charges against Dosanjh and 51-year-old Sarabjit Singh Gill of Surrey, BC.
Dosanjh faces the following charges:
● Four counts of fraud over $5,000
● Four counts of theft over $5,000
● One count of breach of trust
Police say the conduct at the centre of the allegations occurred between 2017 and 2025.
Chief Rai said the VPD received information from multiple victims in December 2023, prompting him to initiate an investigation. A dedicated investigative team was subsequently established.
The VPD also assigned a dedicated victim and witness management team to support those affected while the allegations were being investigated. According to the Chief, 19 victims have been identified to date.
Chief Rai expressed appreciation for the victims, recognizing their strength, resilience and commitment to justice.
The Chief described the matter as significant and deeply concerning for the VPD, particularly because the accused is a longtime member of the department.
“Incidents like this are profoundly troubling and inconsistent with the values of our organization,” Chief Rai said in his statement.
Dosanjh has been suspended effective immediately. Chief Rai has also recommended to the Vancouver Police Board that Dosanjh be suspended without pay. If the Board approves the recommendation, the suspension would remain in effect while the criminal proceedings and any related disciplinary proceedings under the Police Act continue.
The VPD has also appealed to anyone who may have information about the alleged conduct to come forward. A dedicated phone line has been established at 604-717-2601.
Chief Rai emphasized that the allegations against one individual do not represent the conduct or values of the Vancouver Police Department, noting the work of officers who serve the community with professionalism and integrity.
The investigation and court proceedings remain ongoing.
