Two people were seriously injured following a multi-vehicle collision on the Alex Fraser Bridge that involved nine vehicles and temporarily disrupted southbound traffic, according to Delta Police.

Police said the crash occurred around midnight. Witness accounts suggest the incident began when two vehicles collided, triggering a series of additional crashes as approaching motorists were unable to stop in time.

Emergency responders attended the scene, and two injured individuals were transported to hospital. Their injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

Police Examine Possible Role of Speed

Delta Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the sequence of events that led to multiple vehicles becoming involved.

Investigators said impaired driving is not currently suspected to have contributed to the incident. However, speed is being considered as a possible factor.

Police have not announced a final determination of the cause.

Southbound Traffic Restored After Bridge Closure

The collision affected southbound traffic on the Alex Fraser Bridge while emergency personnel responded and the roadway was cleared.

According to police, the southbound lanes reopened at approximately 4 a.m.
